What is the Borough Strategy?
Doncaster’s Borough Strategy (also known as a Sustainable Community Strategy) is the overarching long-term document for improving the economic, social and environmental well-being of Doncaster.
The last Borough Strategy was published in 2005 and this document is currently being revised by the Council and its partners to ensure it captures an up to date understanding of the long term challenges and opportunities in Doncaster up until 2025.
Doncaster Vision
‘By 2025 Doncaster will be acknowledged as a city of significance in the country and in Europe.
This will be based on the recognised advantage of its strategic location, enhanced by its international transport infrastructure. The opportunity for everybody to enjoy the highest quality of life will have enabled Doncaster to attract and retain a growing population with world-class skills in the high growth industries that drive the regional economy.’
Priority Themes
New priorities for the Borough Strategy were agreed by Full Council on the 28th May 2008 after consultation with all stakeholders. These priorities are intended to provide a balanced, evidenced- based framework for achieving the Vision:
- Prosperous Place
- Skills & Lifelong Learning
- Healthy & Caring
- Safer, Cleaner & Greener
- Equality of Opportunity
- Improving Neighbourhoods Together
- Environmental Sustainability
The Borough Strategy provides the evidence base for the focus of Doncaster’s Local Area Agreement – which is the three-year delivery plan for the Borough Strategy.
Doncaster's Partnership Boards will drive the implementation of the Shared Priorities. Strategic leadership is given by the Discover the Spirit (DtS) Board.
